Southampton 2023-24 Home shirt by Hummel

The Danish sports brand Hummel commemorates its 100th anniversary by collaborating with nine renowned football clubs to revive one of the most iconic football jersey designs in history. One of these clubs are Southampton, who today announced that they will wear the legendary Denmark national team jersey design from 1986 as part of the celebration.

In a remarkable display during last week's European Championship qualifier against Northern Ireland, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Rasmus Højlund, Jesper Lindstrøm, and their teammates from the Danish national team embraced nostalgia by sporting the legendary Denmark '86 jersey.

And now there is good news for all football jersey lovers. The iconic design of one of the greatest football jerseys of all time will continue to grace the pitch throughout the season, ensuring that it won't be the last time we see its presence.

To celebrate their 100th anniversary, hummel is bringing back the pinstripe design from the Denmark '86 jersey together with several of their biggest football clubs. Among them is Southampton, which has just unveiled their new home kit, drawing inspiration from the 1986 design, while paying tribute to the legendary 1987-89 Saints jersey.

A total of nine prominent hummel clubs will wear jerseys featuring the '86 design with each club choosing whether to use it as a home, away, or third jersey. Additionally, the jersey colours will be customized to suit each club's identity.

"Although the Danish '86-jersey divided opinions at the time, it has since achieved great recognition and won several international awards as one of the most iconic designs of all time. As part of our 100th anniversary, we're incredibly proud to join forces with some of our biggest clubs to pay homage to this iconic masterpiece and showcase its eye-catching design on the pitch once again," says hummel CEO, Allan Vad Nielsen.

Despite being designed 37 years ago, the jersey continues to achieve great recognition in football circles. Most recently, the major global football media, FourFourTwo, has awarded the jersey as the most beautiful football jersey ever.

"We have experienced an overwhelming demand from our club's fans for the 86 design over the years, and we're thrilled to finally meet their request by introducing this design across our biggest clubs. It will be truly exhilarating to see the jerseys in action at renowned stadiums, both domestically and internationally.
