Barcelona took first place in the group leaving it between Milan and Ajax to fight it out for second place. The final game of the group stages saw a goalless draw between the two sides giving Milan the final qualification spot where they faced an inform Atletico Madrid. The Spanish side eliminated Milan with victory in both legs
