Classic and Retro Real Betis Football Shirts

Real Betis's distinctive green and white colour scheme is unique in Spanish top flight football.Formed in 1907 the club's original strip was blue shirts and white shorts. Four years later though the side started wearing a set of green and white striped jerseys that had been donated by Scottish club Celtic who had recently switched to their famous hoops and had no more need for their previous striped jerseys. The shirts were brought over by one of Betis' founders, Manuel Asensio Ramos, whilst on a business trip to the city. Appropriately green and white also happen to be the colour of the Andalucia province from which the club hail.In 1914 the club merged with Sevilla Balompié to create Real Betis Balompié. They initially abandoned the green and white striped outfit and instead experimented with a variety of kit colours and combinations including yellow and black stripes, all green and even the blue and white of their original football strip. However by the end of the 1920s the green and white stripes were back and have remained at the club - in some form or other - ever since. As with all teams who sport stripes, the width of the stripes has varied over the years although in the main have been reasonably consistent.Until the 2010-11 season, Kappa were the club's long term kit partners and had supplied the side with an array of memorable kits including the 1995-07 zig zag teal change strip, the 2006-07 bold, wide striped jersey and the green Euro away kit a season earlier. In fact green is by far the most common Betis change colour (although blue, grey and black have also been worn). As no other Spanish club sports green they really only have to focus on avoiding white clashes when changing from their home shirts. In 2009 Betis took on the mantle of producing their own kits under the name RBB.Like their Spanish counterparts Barcelona and Atletic Bilbao, Real Betis for many years resisted the lure of shirt sponsorship however in recent years this philosophy has altered and La Gitana, Globet and more recently Andalucia have appeared on the kits.
