Classic and Retro Bayern Munich Football Shirts

Being a Bayern Munich shirt collector must require a lot of storage space as the German giants have worn an incredible number of kits in the past 30 or so years. Red of course is the favoured home colour (although originally white shirts were worn with red only arriving in 1905 when the side joined forces with Münchner Sport-Club who insisted on changing the jersey colour) and on more than one occasion the side have worn several different designs of home kit in the same season. Bayern are also one of the leading pioneers of adopting a completely different kit for Champions League and Cup games - often in a totally different colour. Although white has always been used to trim the Bayern shirt in the early 90s blue also began to creep in as an additional trim colour culminating in the Barcelona-like 1995 striped jersey. More recently red and white hoops or stripes have also been sported. The Bayern shirt is also renowned amongst football kit afficiandos for having the club name printed on the back of the shirt - probably something to do with the fact that in recent years a badge didn't appear regularly on the front of the jersey until 1989! White shirts are the most traditional Bayern change outfits although in the 80s and 90s the club had an unusual tradition of wearing yellow and green for luck when playing their rivals FC Kaiserslautern. The club have stayed loyal to local suppliers when it comes to kit and have been with adidas since the early 1970s. In fact for several years adidas also acted as shirt sponsor for the side before being replaced by Magirus Deutz in 1979. Iveco, Commodore and Opel have subsequently sponsored the team with mobile phone company T-Mobile arriving in 2002.
