During the season Wolfsburg finished 10th in the Bundesliga and were knocked out in the last 16 of the DFB-Pokal, losing 2-1 against Bayern Munich. During his time at Wolfsburg Rau made 48 Bundesliga appearances and scored 1 goal between 2001-03.
