Straight aces for the Las Vegas Lights!

(Posted on 16/05/18)

Las Vegas, where fates can be decided at the pull of a lever, flick of a card or the roll of a dice…

The bright lights of one of the worlds craziest cities is famous for getting rich quick, gorging on alcohol and meeting and marrying that special someone, all in the same evening!

But perhaps the last thing that comes to mind is football, it’s seemed the beautiful game has had no place in a city synonymous with sin.

The United States has embraced soccer over the last decade, with the likes of David Beckham, David Villa, Thierry Henry and Andrea Pirlo all moving stateside to throw the spotlight on the MLS, but perhaps it’s biggest boots was via the US Men’s National Team.

It’s been all well and good for the billion dollar MLS, but the NASL (North American Soccer League and the USL (United States League) have been all but thrown to the shadows….until now.

With the previous two World Cup campaigns for the US, the game across the country, not just the MLS has seen a huge demand and rise in attendance and the shrewd business owners in the States have seen the gap in the market.

The USL is a new league, now in it’s eighth season and boasts 33 sides having formed in 2010. A number of sides from the established NASL have departed recently to join the USL, including the likes of Atlanta Silverbacks, Indy Eleven, Ottawa Fury FC and the re-founded Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Although new on the block, the league will have never seen anyone like our feature club, Las Vegas Lights FC. Playing at Cashman Field (very suitably named) in an open baseball park with a capacity of 9,000+ in the baking hot sun of Nevada, this league just learnt how to party.

The Stadium in the north of Las Vegas is historically the third oldest Triple-A baseball ground in the US and also featured as a landmark on the popular video game ‘Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’.

It now moves new tenants into the stadium as the Lights begin to compete and hope reinvigorate the way Vegas is seen in the sporting world, becoming the first football team in Vegas for almost forty years.

VintageFootballShirts.com is proud to bring you both home and away shirts for the 2018 campaign, their first in the USL after forming in August 2017. The home shirt to be worn by Isidro Sanchez’s side will be a truly distinctive dark blue emblazoned with the famous lights of Vegas. The BLK designed masterpiece makes a true statement and the clubs new crest screams sin city. It’s got neat features to it both inside and out, with a ‘smiley’ face on the inside of the shirt.

The white away shirt is as crazy as the tourists who visit the city and all who choose to live there. The yellow circle collar and distorted sleeve is strangely fitting and the three stripes of blue and yellow across the abdomen is certainly eye-catching. One of our personal favourites, the BLK custom made shirt have marked this season in spectacular style!

The blue at the base with the smiley face at the bottom is unlike any shirt in world football and will be a massive hit with football shirt fans and collectors all over the planet.

Football has needed more characters in the game and we may just have that with Vegas, and all of us at VFS will be willing them on in the USL this season, even when the chips are down…
