"And Heskey Makes It Five!"
Posted on 01/09/17
On the day in which England continue their World Cup Qualifiying campaign, the Three Lions may be able to take some inspiration on the first day of Setpember.
Today marks the 16th anniversary since Sven's men battered Germany 5-1 at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, becoming the first team to ever beat the effieicent Germans on home soil in a qualifier.
It was all going so well for the home side as Carsten Jancker gave them the lead after just six minutes, and it looked like it was going to be a long night for England. However, with a young and primed Michael Owen, 21-year old Steven Gerrard and the rest of what became England's 'golden generation', the world was about to be shook.
Owen grabbed a hatrick whilst Gerrard got his first international goal which was rounded off by Emile Heskey's effort putting the icing on the cake.On a night that the Germans thought they'd walk, they were certainly left with a sauerkraut taste in their mouths.
