2020 Pescara Special Edition Rainbow Shirt

One of Best Shirt of 2020 has Arrived (and it’s made by a six-year old!)
Among all the chaos and uncertainty of the world, a glimmer of colour and pride has pierced through in the shape of a football shirt.
For six weeks, the world has been turned upside down with the spread of COVID-19 sweeping through country to country paying no attention to borders, race or religion. Millions of people across Europe and beyond are being told in no uncertain terms, stay home, save lives.
With this comes a new challenge, a fight against not only the virus but the fight to remain occupied, maintain mental health and for many of us, fill the gaping hole that football has left during it’s absence.
Italy was one of the first countries into lockdown, it’s the place where all of this really hit home for the rest of Europe. Videos of communities singing in lockdown spread across the internet like wildfire and showcased the triumph of the human spirit.
The city of Pescara sits on the west coast of Italy, sitting on the Adriatic Sea it’s one of the countries most picturesque locations. Home of Delfino Pescara 36 who ply their trade in Serie B, the football club like many cities across the continent are the life-blood of their area.
In March 2020, Pescara announced that they wanted to ‘give a kick to COVID-19’ by having their young supporters work on an ambitious project. Many teams big and small rely on the template designs of a major sports brand or the tech-savvy design of the heavily researched custom shirt to ensure target sales are reached, but not I Delfini.
The club announced that a competition to design next season’s home shirt was open to their young supporters, with entries coming in in their droves. The winner was announced at the end of April as six year old Luigi D’Agostino who’s beautifully colourful design will now be donned by the likes of Ledian Memushaj, Valeri Bojinov and Cristian Galano.
The sky blue design – in keeping with the club’s traditional colours – is complimented by a rainbow across the chest, something which has symbolised key workers – including health staff – during the outbreak of the Coronavirus. The lower half of the shirt features a Dolphin, being the club’s nickname and is accompanied by a football and waves along the bottom.
Young Luigi has also been invited to Errea, the club’s shirt manufacturer, to their base in Parma to view production and be given a tour of the facility, something many of us can only dream of.
This shirt doesn’t only represent Pescara, but it’s a symbol of Italy, Europe and the World in the fight against an invisible enemy. It’s shown that creativity and the love of the game can’t be stifled by anything and no matter when Pescara eventually are able to pull on the shirt for a game we’ll know that together the football community has come together to fight, no matter your team.
Luigi’s design has propelled Pescara to worldwide news, something not entirely common for a club who boast just two Serie B titles in their trophy cabinet and had to wait over 50 years for their first silverware.
But now, the reletively forgotten club outside of Western Italy will have a fresh look worn by thousands worldwide with this shirt one of the hottest pieces of memrobilia, and it’s not even available yet!
